Welcome to St. Mary's Syro Malabar Mission in Tauranga, a vibrant and growing community rooted in faith, fellowship, and the rich traditions of the Syro Malabar Catholic Church. Our story is a testament to the promise of Christ's presence whenever we gather in His name.

Our journey began in late 2012 with a small group of Malayalee Christians (Syro Malabar Christians) who migrated from Kerala, South India, to make Tauranga their new home. United by a deep desire to worship in our cherished tradition, they began to pray together and celebrate the Holy Qurbana. From these humble and faith-filled beginnings, the seeds of our community were planted.

Through the grace of God and the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary, our mission has truly flourished. From that small initial gathering, we have grown into a vibrant spiritual family, now blessed with 250 members and continuing to grow. The future of our faith community is bright and active, with 71 children attending our Catechism classes every Sunday. This beautiful growth is a testament to God's providence and the deep faith of our members.

A significant and blessed milestone in our history occurred earlier this year, in 2025. Our community was officially registered under the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Melbourne. In recognition of our spiritual growth and stability, the Reverend Bishop graciously elevated our status to that of a Minor Mission. This was a moment of profound joy and a validation of our collective commitment to living an authentic Christian life.

At the heart of our mission is a deep reverence for the sacred rituals and traditions of the Syro Malabar Church. We are a community that closely and faithfully follows the liturgical calendar, celebrates the sacraments with devotion, and strives to live the Gospel in our daily lives. We are more than just a place of worship; we are a close-knit family that supports one another in faith and provides a welcoming home for all who seek to draw closer to Christ.
